Carcassonne is classified as one of UNESCO'S Universal Heritage sites.

Carcassonne is a vast, intact medieval fortified town, 15 minutes south of Aragon. Carcassonne was the most highly developed fortified town of the Middle Ages, often attacked but never invaded. Its 30 towers dominate the Bastide Saint Louis and the surrounding countryside. The town was almost dismantled in the 19th century but was fortunately restored by Viollet le Duc. The Cité is an exceptional site to visit.
